Taransaud Tonnellerie
Patience, rigour and respect are the hallmarks of the TARANSAUD cooperage approach, which is centred on the close-knit union between wood and wine. During ageing in French oak barrels, wines and brandies acquire the finishing touches to their character and reveal their full complexity. This is what we call a "perfect exchange". In order to achieve it, we use extremely rigorous methods at every stage of the crafting of our barrels and tanks.

THE PERFECT EXCHANGE

Maturing the wood
Taransaud’s wood-yard reaches 30 acres. There, in the open-air, more than six million boards are left to age naturally for two or three years and even up to 5 years for large containers. This entirely natural seasoning process for all wood is attested annually by the Bureau Veritas.

Sun, wind and rain is nature's way of eliminating the most bitter tannins, and virtually all the humidity in the wood, while at the same time adding a range of aromatic components. It is these components that bring out the best in fine wines during their long maturation in oak barrels.
